Dance Meetings take place every Wednesday evening throughout the
year. There are literally hundreds of dances from this period, but
you don't need to learn them all by heart - the movements are explained,
then demonstrated and then walked through before we actually dance
to the music.
We meet at St. Luke's Church Hall, Winchester, from 8-10pm. St Luke's Church is in Mildmay Street, just
off Stanmore Road. The Postcode is SO22 4BX. If you go to the end
of Mildmay Street, where it joins Battery Hill in a right angle,
the entrance is just at the corner. Park and walk down the slope
at the side of the church and you will see the entrance to the hall.
Sessions start promptly at 8pm.
ALL are welcome to ALL sessions but in each month the emphasis
for each session will be as follows:
- Week 1: in-house sessions where a few dances will be practised
over and over again throughout the evening. These sessions will
focus on perfecting dances for this season's dancing out, concentrating
on steps and "good practice".
- Week 2: Rosemary and Steve Hunt with live music. All welcome
especially beginners.
- Week 3: Diana Cruickshank - focusing on extending our knowledge
and abilities, the emphasis being on more advanced dances such
as Cotillions and Quadrilles. We may also learn new dances to
add to our repertoire.
- Week 4: in-house session - a beginner's session in every
sense, starting with the basics of Regency dancing. All welcome.
The focus in Weeks 1 & 3 will be to build on our skills.
The focus in Weeks 2 & 4 will be to encourage everyone to try
new things.

The
session starts promptly at 8pm. No special clothes are needed, and
you don't need to bring a partner. We suggest wearing flat shoes
of the 'ballet pump' variety for ladies, or 'Jazz Shoes' which are
suitable for both men and women. There is a short interval of 15
minutes during the session for refreshments and a chance to get
to know others in the group. Though we take our dancing seriously,
these are also social evenings.
