The Hampshire Regency Dancers is a dance group based in Winchester,
England. Our aim is to promote, practice and enjoy the dances from
the late Georgian to the Regency period (about 1775-1830), when
Jane Austen was writing her novels.
We meet regularly throughout the year on Wednesday evenings, so
you can learn the Country Dances, Cotillions and Quadrilles danced
by Jane and the characters in her novels. The dances are suitable
for all ages and abilities and you don't need to bring a partner
or a costume!
Dances are taught by historical dance experts. We walk all dances
through in advance, practice any new steps and then dance them to
the music of the period. Some of the dances are lively, but others
are slow and stately, designed to allow dancers of the Regency period
to show off their finery!
We always welcome new members - discover the elegance and style
of dancing in a different century!
We also hold Regency Balls, Assemblies and other Events during
the year in period costume. Some Events are for members only and
some are open to the public.
Our display team perform at Regency and Jane Austen events, period
re-enactments, dance festivals and private events (such as Assembly
Balls) organised or attended by the group.
You can hire our display team to perform at your special event
and we are happy to tailor our programme to your requirements.
